A recent article posted in wake of the Las Vegas shooting asks ‘gun nuts’ what they have to say now that a good guy with a gun was killed. Well, luckily for them, I usually have loads to say.
First of all, the title of that article is COMPLETELY insensitive. Mr. Wilcox had a gun and was willing to defend himself as well as others instead of sitting around in a fettle position doing nothing. Had he known about the second shooter (Jerad’s wife Amanda), this could have ended differently. What comments would the liberals have then on concealed carry? I’m curious to know because my best guess is there wouldn’t be any comments. Heck, it’s possible that the media wouldn’t even have covered it. Instead, the media zooms in on this event in hopes to draw attention away from the deaths in Chicago, where up until recently only cops and criminals had guns.
Now, THINK for once about what we say about concealed carry. We say that it serves as a deterrent and can help PREVENT gun related crimes. Prevent being the key word here. It is irrational to think that no one will be hurt/killed ever. We have sick people in this world who don’t know or care about the value of a human life. However, more guns in the hands of the good guys will PREVENT more crimes from happening. Being armed gives an individual a better chance to stop a deadly attack. That’s what we’ve always said.
Next, all of you anti-gun advocates talk about how we should rely on police protection in situations like this. Let me ask you this- where were the police when Mr. Wilcox was shot trying to defend innocent people? Where are the police during all the gun-related crimes committed in Chicago on a daily basis? Mr. Wilcox took this into his own hands because he had a defensive weapon and there was no one else around to defend him. A second shooter can take anyone off guard, including the 2 officers that were killed. He didn’t know she was a threat because her gun was hidden, which is the only reason this situation ended the way it did.
If everyone carried concealed, there would have been multiple people who could have drawn their weapons to the killers. Heck, it probably would have ended before they even left the pizza place had there been good guys with guns.
Finally, I am tired of seeing ‘Mass Shooting’ thrown across the screen. Misuse of terms by the media is one of the main reasons America thinks the gun homicide is increasing instead of decreasing. As horrible as it is that honorable men lost their lives, this is in no means a ‘mass’ shooting. The Obama Administration and organizations like Mom’s Demand like to use public shootings and label them as mass shootings to scare the public into thinking things are way worse than they actually are. Haven’t you heard the Obama administration claim “there have been 23 mass shootings since Sandy Hook”? That isn’t true even when looking at the FBI definition of ‘mass murder’ (need I point out that they don’t actually define how many deaths to be consider ‘mass shooting’). Anyway, for arguments sake I will use the FBI definition of mass murder which is ‘a single incident in which a perpetrator kills 4 or more people not including his or herself’.
Let’s take this recent shooting for example. 3 innocent people died; 2 police officers and Joseph Wilcox. News sites are saying there are 5 fatalities because they are including the deaths of Jared and Amanda Miller. Why are they including the shooters’ fatalities? Because then they can classify this event as a ‘mass shooting’. See how terms are being misused to manipulate you? Newton- THAT is a mass shooting. Aurora- THAT is a mass shooting. Las Vegas? Not a mass shooting and I am sure you’ll find the same pattern if you look into other recent events.
